Healthcare is being bombarded by demands to “upgrade” its data analytics to include data science (DS), artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML). These approaches can provide unique analytical insights, as well as help automate some operational and decision-making processes more efficiently and effectively than their alternatives. However, these approaches are also the buzziest of buzzwords right now, and many are overselling and oversimplifying their usage.
In this session, we will explore the entire analytical spectrum, starting with working definitions of DS, AI, and ML, as well as good old fashioned data analytics (GOFDA) – the still relevant and necessary Business Intelligence (BI) tools/reports/dashboards and ad-hoc SQL queries. This session will then discuss some healthcare data analytics use cases, including where DS/AI/ML is adding value – and GOFDA is complementing those efforts.
